Child Friendly School & Child Protection

For the past four years, Bhasha Centre collaborated with UNICEF in 133 villages of Kawant block in Chhotaudepur district to promote child friendly schools to aid retention and to strengthen child protection mechanisms laid by the government. The project endeavoured to provide quality education and a protective environment to children and aid the Right to Education Act.

Under the project, School Management Committees and Child Protection Committees were formed and provided trainings in child welfare.

School Development Plans and Child Protection Plans were prepared for each village and the respective village committees were guided to implement these.

Child Friendly Schools and Systems were implemented through the School Management Committees and other stakeholders.

Following surveys of out-of-school children, such children were enrolled to government schools. Migrating children are provided with migration cards.

Adoloscent Girls Groups were formed to reduce the prevalence of child marriages.

Following the successful completion of the programme in Kanwant, Bhasha and UNICEF are planning to collaborate to spread this initiative in four other talukas of Chhotaudepur district: Chhotaudepur, Pavijetpur, Naswadi and Bodeli.
